Homemade Biscuits

I do live in the South

Believe it or not, I am pretty sure I had never tried biscuits and gravy for breakfast until this past year. We rarely go out for breakfast and when we do it is almost a sure bet I am going to get pancakes despite growing up in the south.  Zack, Noble and I went to brunch with my family not too long ago at a local place called Joy Cafe and Zack ordered biscuits and gravy.....OMG it was incredible!  They were amazing!  It definitely had something to do with the restaurant we were at because I have now ordered it for myself at a few places and none quite compare to the original.  I decided we were going to have it for dinner one night and I made my version.  Still not quite as good as Joy Cafe, but very tasty.

Homemade Biscuits

makes 12 biscuits

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baling powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 dash salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup buttermilk

Preaheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.  

In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Cut in 1/2 cup butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in the buttermilk. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead 2 minutes. Roll to approximately 1 inch thick and use a biscuit cutter to cut rounds.

Bake 15 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean
