Cinnamon Sugar Scones

Sorry for the delay.

Sorry to keep you waiting on these scones, but believe me, they are worth waiting for. I am working on a client 18 miles from my house and with DC traffic that means if I do not leave my house by 6:30 in the morning it will take me well over an hour to get there. I am not used to waking up at 5:30 in the morning to go to work, so I have been tired and not really in the mood to do anything when I get home from work. So without further adieu here is a tasty recipe for cinnamon sugar scones which are very similar to snickerdoodles. I loved these scones and so did my friends. I used the basic scone recipe that was given to me by my boyfriend's mom and modified the flavors. I am sure you will love this recipe!

Miniature Cinnamon Sugar Scones
recipe adapted from Teresa Miller

Scones:

2 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/4 cups whipping cream (heavy cream)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (by hand). Pour in whipping cream. Mix or knead by hand, just until combined (about 45 second). Mix will be sticky. Flour surface. Divide dough into two sections and pat into two rounds, each approximately four inches. Note: Score each round first with a knife into 4ths , then 8ths. Then cut and put on a greased large cookie sheet. Bake 9 to 11 minutes. Let cool five minutes, then glaze.

Icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 - 2 tablespoons milk

Mix together until a thin icing consistency and pour or drizzle over warm scones. If you are not getting the consistency you want then just add a little more milk.

These look fantastic. Still haven't tried scones - but when I do, they might just have to be these given my hubby's snickerdoodle obsession.

you can't really tell they're miniature from the photos, but either way, they look so yummy

Oh goodness, Risa, those early mornings sound horrible. I get up at 5:30 just to study...never to leave the house...UGH! No wonder you're so tired. Man oh man, I do hope you're able to get some rest soon. I've been wondering why you haven't been online, and now I know. These scones look delish. I love snickerdoodles, as I'm sure you could guess (given our status as kindred spirits). P.S. Atlanta says hi :)

These look really good. I love scones and get one at every visit to Starbucks or Panera, but have never made them! Will have to put these on my list!

These look delicous and I am planning to try this weekend. Just curious if something is missing from the icing recipe - it doesn't seem like a 1/2 tsp. of vanilla will be enough liquid for 2 cups of powdered sugar. Thanks!

thanks Anonymous for noticing the error in the glaze recipe. I actually used one cup of powdered sugar and then added a little bit of water to get it to the desired consistency.

Sorry you have to get up so early, that stinks!

However these were worth the wait. I can't wait to make them, and add my new cinnamon chips!

Thanks for the recipe!

I love cinnamon, I always add extra to everything! I can't wait to try these! DO you think they would work with buttermilk instead of cream?

Risa said...

Hi Maria,

I was actually thinking about using buttermilk the other day. I definitely think it would work. I once made these with 3/4 skim milk because I did not realize I did not have enough cream and they were still great.

I hope soon you'll be able to resume more sustainable work hours and that will put you in a better baking mood :)

And my scone addiction continues...
These look fabulous!

Try using real Cinnamon in your recipe and reduce on the sugar.

The Cinnamon available in the US is actually Cassia which has a high level of coumarin.

Hi Risa,

I tried your scones this afternoon. I just realized your icing recipe did not mention to add milk.
The scones doesnt resembles the real scones but this is a very good moist scones to make on a short notice when one is dying for a scone! I will make this again! Thanks for sharing!

I made cinnamon scones last week and they were a huge hit! I'm defiantly going to try out this recipe sometime soon, I really like how there isn't any butter required. Although, the heavy cream makes up for it!!

Thanks for the share :)

Sorry, but I didn't care for these scones. They did not taste like scones to me. They were the wrong texture and tasted very bland. You shouldn't have to drizzle the glaze on them but without it they tasted horrible.

I am sorry to hear you did not like these Anonymous. Everybody I severed these to loved them to (including myself), I think it is just personal taste.
